How UST is getting work done on Upwork

Recognition for Open Talent platform strategy marks UST’s tenth 2022 Brandon Hall Excellence Award

The Problem

As UST has continued to grow, innovate & build new products, the organization was in need of a total talent solution that not only enhanced talent access across the globe but also mitigated misclassification risk to ensure the organization was 100% compliant with local labor laws. This was important for departments leveraging on-demand talent for internal needs (Marketing, Engineering, etc.) but also for client-facing opportunities (Delivery teams, Emerging Technologies, etc.).

The Solution

After engaging with a wide variety of teams and leaders across UST, the decision was made to transition to Upwork’s WPP Compliance solution. This would not only ensure that UST was 100% compliant with local & regulatory requirements but still allowed all teams across UST to have access to the top 1% of talent & skill sets within Upwork’s online marketplace.

The Impact

Since the transition (August 2022), it has allowed UST to remain 100% compliant engaging with on-demand talent (28+ million) located in 180+ countries across the globe. While still keeping the average time-to-hire extremely low (3.5 days) and achieving significant cost-savings (up to 30+%) on niche skills due to the variable cost structure that the open talent model has allowed UST’s teams to achieve, compared to traditional staffing resources. In fact, UST received Gold Recognition from Brandon Hall HR Tech Excellence Awards based on the organization’s implementation of on-demand talent & the open talent model.
